Physiotherapy

Movement-focused recovery, customized to you.

What we mean by physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is hands-on assessment and treatment of how your body moves. We look at where load goes through joints and tissues, what's working too hard, and what's not pulling its weight. Then we treat — through manual therapy, dry needling, focused exercise, and modalities like shockwave or laser when they fit.

Every plan is yours. We start with what's bringing you in, agree on goals, and adjust as we go. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes. Most people see meaningful change in 4 to 8 visits.

When this helps

  • Movement restoration

Getting back to walking, lifting, working, training — the things your day asks of your body.

  • Pain that won't settle

When rest hasn't worked and the discomfort is shaping how you live.

  • Post-surgical recovery

Structured rehab after orthopaedic surgery, with timelines that match the procedure.

  • Acute injury

Sprains, strains, and the first 6 weeks after a clear mechanism of injury.

  • Chronic conditions

Long-standing pain or stiffness where progress comes from consistent work, not a single fix.

What to expect at your first visit

Your first visit is 45–60 minutes. We take a thorough history, assess movement and strength, and start hands-on work the same session. You leave with a clear treatment plan, a few home exercises, and an honest read on how many visits this will likely take. Direct billing on most major insurers.

Common questions

Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist in Alberta?

No. Physiotherapists in Alberta are primary care providers — you can book directly without a referral. Some private insurance plans require a referral for reimbursement, so check your policy. WCB and MVA claims have their own intake process and we handle the paperwork.

How long is a typical physiotherapy session?

First visits run 45–60 minutes and include a full assessment, hands-on treatment, and a home exercise plan. Follow-up sessions are 30 minutes. We'll set the cadence with you based on your goals and what your body is telling us.

How many sessions will I need?

Most patients see meaningful change in 4–8 sessions. Acute injuries can settle in 2–4 visits; longer-standing conditions may need 8–12. We re-assess every few visits and you only keep coming as long as it's helping.

Is physiotherapy covered by Alberta Health Care?

Not directly — AHCIP doesn't cover private physiotherapy. Most extended health plans (Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, etc.) cover it, and we direct-bill most major insurers. WCB and MVA claims are fully covered with no out-of-pocket cost to you.

Will treatment hurt?

Most physiotherapy techniques are not painful — soreness during or after some hands-on work is normal and short-lived. We always check in on pressure and intensity, and you have the final say on what feels right.

We direct-bill most major insurers. Bring your card and we handle the paperwork.
