Massage Therapy

Registered massage for pain, tension, and recovery.

What is massage therapy?

Massage therapy is hands-on treatment of the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, and joints. Our registered massage therapists use a mix of techniques to ease tension, support circulation, and help the body recover from the load it carries day to day.

Every session is tailored. We start with what is bothering you, agree on pressure and focus areas, and adjust as we go. Massage works well on its own and pairs naturally with physiotherapy when you are recovering from a specific injury.

When massage therapy helps

  • Muscle tension and tightness

Tight shoulders, neck, and lower back from desk work or physical jobs.

  • Stress and recovery

Winding down a busy nervous system and supporting sleep.

  • Sports performance and recovery

Keeping training loads sustainable and easing post-event soreness.

  • Headaches

Tension-type headaches with a clear neck and shoulder component.

  • Pregnancy and post-partum

Comfort care for the changes your body is moving through.

  • Injury recovery

Alongside a physiotherapy plan when soft tissue work will help progress.

What to expect at your first visit

Your therapist will ask about your health history, current symptoms, and what you would like to get out of the session. You will agree on focus areas, pressure, and any spots to avoid before treatment starts. Most patients leave with a few simple stretches or self-care tips to help the work hold between visits. We direct bill most major insurers when massage therapy is covered under your plan.

Common questions

Do I need to undress for a massage?

Only as much as you're comfortable with. You'll undress in private, get under the sheet, and only the area being worked on is uncovered at a time. Many patients keep undergarments on. It's your call and won't affect the quality of treatment.

What's the difference between massage therapy and physiotherapy?

Massage therapy focuses on soft tissue: releasing tension, easing soreness, supporting circulation. Physiotherapy is broader: movement assessment, exercise prescription, hands-on joint and tissue work, with a structured rehab plan. The two pair well when you're recovering from an injury.

How often should I get a massage?

For stress and general maintenance, monthly is common. If you're managing a specific issue or returning to sport, weekly or biweekly for 4–6 sessions is typical, then taper to monthly. Your therapist will recommend a cadence after the first visit.

Is massage therapy covered by my insurance?

Most extended health plans cover registered massage therapy in Alberta. We direct-bill most major insurers, so bring your card and we'll handle the rest. Coverage limits vary by plan, so check your annual maximum.

Can I get massage therapy on a WCB or MVA claim?

MVA yes, WCB no. Alberta Auto Insurance covers registered massage therapy as part of your treatment plan for motor vehicle accident claims, and we direct-bill. WCB does not currently allow us to bill massage therapy, so work-related injuries usually go through physiotherapy instead.

We direct-bill most major insurers. Bring your card and we handle the paperwork.

Alberta Auto Insurance (MVA)

Covered from the date of accident, no pre-approval needed for the first block of visits. We file everything your insurer requires.

WCB claims

Massage therapy is not currently covered by WCB in Alberta. For a work-related injury, physiotherapy is the covered path and we handle the reporting.
