Hip, knee, elbow & wrist pain

Joint-specific assessment and treatment for the whole limb.

About joint pain

Hip, knee, elbow, and wrist pain often comes from how load distributes through the joint — patterns built up over years of training, work, or compensating for a previous injury. The presenting joint isn't always the problem; the cause is often a few links up or down the chain. Our job is to identify the actual driver and address it, not just chase the symptom.

Common patterns: runner's knee, IT band syndrome, tennis and golfer's elbow, hip impingement, wrist tendonitis, post-surgical recovery. Each has a typical recovery arc and a typical mistake patients make trying to manage it themselves. We help you avoid both.

Symptoms we see

  • Pain with specific movements

Ache that fires with stairs, squatting, gripping, or twisting motions.

  • Localised tenderness

A clear sore spot around the joint that's reproducible with pressure.

  • Clicking or catching

Mechanical sensations that may or may not be painful.

  • Loss of full range

Can't straighten, bend, or rotate as far as the other side.

  • Swelling after activity

Joint puffs up the day after training, work, or unusual use.

  • Weakness in nearby muscles

Strength loss in the muscles bridging the joint — often the give-away of a longer-standing issue.

How we approach treatment

We assess the whole movement chain — not just the painful joint. Treatment combines manual therapy, modalities like shockwave or laser when they fit, and a progressive loading program designed for your specific situation. Athletes and active patients often get sport-specific return-to-activity programming. Post-surgical cases follow protocol timelines coordinated with your surgeon.

Common questions

  • How long until I feel better?
Most patients notice progress within 3 to 6 visits. Recovery timelines depend on the injury, your overall health, and how consistently you follow your home program. Your therapist sets clear milestones at your first visit so you know what to expect.
  • Do you direct-bill my insurance?
Yes. We bill most major extended health insurers directly, as well as Motor Vehicle Accident claims and Workers’ Compensation. Bring your insurance details to your first appointment and we handle the paperwork.
  • Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No. Physiotherapy is a primary-care profession in Alberta, so you can book directly. Some insurance plans do ask for a referral, so we recommend checking with your provider before your first visit.
  • What should I bring to my first visit?
Comfortable clothing you can move in (shorts or yoga pants work well for most assessments). Your insurance info, any imaging or specialist reports if you have them, and your questions.
  • How many visits will I need?
It varies. A simple flare-up may resolve in 2 to 4 visits; chronic or post-surgical conditions can take longer. We track your progress visit-by-visit and adjust the plan to reach your goals as efficiently as we can.
