Acupuncture

Traditional acupuncture for pain, stress, and balance.

Acupuncture needles placed along a patient’s back during a calm clinic session

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the placement of very fine sterile needles at specific points on the body to influence pain, tension, and the autonomic nervous system. The practice has thousands of years of clinical tradition behind it; modern research backs its use for pain, headaches, and stress-related conditions.

Sessions are calm. Needles stay in for 15–25 minutes while you rest. Most patients feel little or nothing at insertion; a deep ache or warmth is normal and short-lived. Patients often leave with the muscles around the treated area noticeably looser.

When this helps

  • Pain and headaches

Tension headaches, neck and shoulder pain, low back pain that hasn't settled with other treatment.

  • Stress and sleep

Quieting a busy nervous system and supporting restful sleep.

  • Muscle tension

Releasing tight bands that have built up from posture, training load, or chronic guarding.

  • Recovery support

Pairs well with physiotherapy and massage when soft-tissue and nervous-system work together hold the result.

What to expect at your first visit

Your first session includes a short intake — what you\'re managing, your health history, anything to avoid. You stay clothed where possible (loose clothing helps) or are draped privately when broader access is needed. Most patients book 4–6 sessions to give the work a chance to land. Direct billing where covered by your plan.

Common questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most patients feel little or nothing at insertion. A deep ache or warmth around the needle is normal and short-lived.

How is acupuncture different from IMS / dry needling?

Acupuncture targets traditional acupoints and is rooted in classical Chinese medicine. IMS targets specific tight muscle bands and is a physiotherapy technique. Different goals, different practitioners, similar tools.

How many sessions will I need?

Most patients book 4–6 sessions and reassess. Acute issues sometimes resolve in 2–3; chronic conditions can take longer.

Is acupuncture covered by insurance?

Many extended health plans cover acupuncture when delivered by a registered practitioner. We direct-bill most major insurers and verify your coverage at the first visit.

Are the needles single-use?

Yes — all needles are sterile, single-use, and disposed of safely after the session.

We direct-bill most major insurers. Bring your card and we handle the paperwork.
